Archive for March, 2012

So as Xana has already said I will be reviewing three shows episodically this season: Legend of Korra, Ginga E Kickoff!!, and Zetman.

Legend of Korra- Nickelodeon?

Must I really explain?

Ginga E Kickoff!!- TYO Animations

I absolutely love soccer; I read a couple of volumes of Whistle! and I played in high school, so I was pretty exited to hear that a soccer anime was coming out. In addition, the few sports anime I have watched I’ve actually enjoyed (even though they are way too over dramatic). SO BRING IT ON!

Zetman- TMS Entertainment

It is a TMS Entertainment production, a studio I truthfully have never heard off. Continuing with the ignorance train I know nothing about the anime, except for what I sol in the trailer, but the trailer absolutely enthralled me. So why not give it a shot?

Thanks!

Sincerely,

Lykos

What spring anime we will be reviewing

Posted: March 31, 2012 by Xana in Uncategorized

So as some of you may know and some of you don’t I write for both Wan Abrar and this lovely site here.  (Well it isn’t very lovely; it is a mess haha because I barely know how to use wordpress)  Today I will be doing a post about what I, Xana and my partner in crime Lykos will be reviewing for you this spring!

I will be reviewing 3 anime for Wan Abrar, if you have never been to that site before what are you still doing here (it is some much nicer and more professional that this blog) I will put the link below.

Accel World

It is by Sunrise Studio.  They are due to come through with something amazing, since they haven’t really put anything good out lately.  The character design looks awesome, the lead is really short, fat, and nerdy.

Tasogare OtomexAmnesia

It is by Silver Link a studio I have never heard of.  The show looks like it is going to be a good substitution for Another horror wise.

Jormungand

It is made by White Fox and it is their first anime since the brilliant Steins; Gate.  It is about arms dealers and a child soldier and it looks violent, I can’t wait.

For Xana Anime Review I will be reviewing at the least Sankarea.  You can’t go wrong with zombie romance right? Let hope there isn’t too much fan service.  If I have time I may review Sakamichi no Apollon or Tsuritama or maybe both.  We shall see!  I am also going to be doing a weekly review of everything I feel like it for the week, I will make it interesting for you all.

Lykos will be reviewing 3 things for you right here.  Although it is not anime Lykos will be reviewing The Legend of Korra because it is badass.  She will also be reviewing 2 anime, Zetman and Ginga E Kickoff.  I will let her say more about why she is reviewing them in her own post.

I hope you all will enjoy our posts! Subscribe if you want, I promise we won’t disappoint you.

Inu X Boku SS is over, the final of the anime I was reviewing this winter.  It had a very cute ending.  Despite the age difference Ririchiyo and Soushi confess to each other and become an item.  It was nice to see the whole cast in the last episode.  I got my share of Karuta who is my favorite!  Now it is time for me to give Inu X Boku a short full series review.

Animation

David Production did a good job with the animation, although it did have its share of shortcuts where the animation looks messy.  The backgrounds were always consistently pretty and well done.  The strongest aspect of the animation was the character designs.  Everyone looked great and all the female characters were really cute.

8/10

Characters

The characters are a mixed bag, some I loved and some I didn’t.  Ririchiyo and Soushi were not the strongest main characters, but it was really nice to seem them develop over time.  They weren’t bad but I really wish they gave Karuta more screen time.

6/10

Sound

Inu X Boku’s opening was nothing special but I really loved all of the different endings throughout the series.  They were really able to portray the characters that were singing them.  The voice acting was cast very well, everyone sounded like they should.

8/10

Plot

The plot is where Inu X Boku suffers; it doesn’t really have much of one.  What takes place is more of a coming of age story for both Ririchiyo and Soushi.  The point of the story was to focus their relationship and overall it was a little boring.

6/10

Overall Inu X Boku wasn’t the most interesting of the 2012 winter anime, but it still had some great moments.

7/10

Thank you for reading all you lovely and beautiful people 🙂

An Update

Posted: March 28, 2012 by Lykos in Uncategorized

Hello there everybody, I just wanted to give you a quick update.

My next full series review will be the 2009 P.A. Works anime, Canaan. I’m still in the process of watching it, but I’m going to attempt to blast through it. Though as of right now school kinda owns my soul. I’m laden with work!!

Hope everyone’s doing well 😀 .

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Lykos

Way to go Ano Natsu, what a great ending.  Ano Natsu pushed itself into my #3 of the best anime of winter 2012.  I loved that Remon was actually part of the Men in Black; I wasn’t expecting that to ever happen.  In conclusion Ichika had to go back to her home planet but not after she touched the hearts of her friends.  I like to think that someday Kai will be able to see her again.  It is time now for me to do a quick full series review of Ano Natsu de Matteru.

Animation

J.C Staff is behind the animation, they are no P.A. Works (like Another) but this may be one of J.C. Staff’s best efforts.  The animation is very clear and very detailed at times.  The character design is strong making the characters all feel very alive.

9/10

Sound

I personally didn’t like Ano Natsu’s opening or ending very much; they were pretty typical and forgetful.  The voice actors all did a fine job.  I especially loved Remon’s voice actor.  She conveyed Remon’s weirdness perfectly.

7/10

Characters

I found myself loving most of the characters but found Kai and Ichika, the leads of the show to be disappointing.  I wanted more Kanna, I wanted more Tetsuro, and I wanted more Mio.  They were the characters that were really able to pour out their hearts throughout the show.  They were the characters I was routing for the whole time, I wanted Mio and Tetsuro to be together and Kai and Kanna to get together.  When Kai and Ichika’s relationship was taking place all I wanted were the other characters to come and make it better.

7.5/10

Plot

The romance was the heart and soul of this series for better or for worse.  I liked certain aspects of it and not others.  I know this show was supposed to be about aliens, but I found myself enjoying the series much better when Ano Natsu was focusing more on the human side of things.  The show was passed well and I never found myself bored, which is always a plus.

7/10

Overall Ano Natsu was a fun romantic series.  You should watch it if your looking for a fun and simple romantic comedy.  Unfortunately the side characters are a lot better then the leads.

7.6/10

Ano Natsu got the same score as Another, but based on personal enjoyment I like Another better, but they are both great anime to watch.

Well Another is over, at least until May when episode 0 comes out.  Hopefully it will tie up a couple of the loose ends.  Overall episode 12 was not a disappointment.  It was violent, action packed and able to sum up the story properly.  I wasn’t surprised with the ending because Rei from Wan Abrar was able to predict it properly.  Reiko was in fact the “other person” and it makes perfect sense.  Only class 3-3 had an extra teacher.  I was impressed that Koichi had it in him to kill his aunt with a pic ax it was pretty crazy.  Well it is now time for me to do what I did for Black Rock Shooter and give Another a quick full series review.

Animation

P.A. Works knows what they are doing when it comes to animation.  Their attention to details is spectacular.  Another has some of the most realistic looking backgrounds I have ever seen.  Another’s character were also great, especially the leads who are al very attractive.

9.5/10

Characters

One problem with Another is at some points it is hard to figure out who is who.  Random characters are thrown at you and you really have no time to get to know them before they are killed off.  Another problem is the characters are never developed well.  You never get to know much about them, and I never felt upset when the characters are killed off.

 6/10

Sound

I personally didn’t like Another’s opening and ending themes, they could have done better.  P.A. works probably spent all their budget money on animation and had nothing left for the openings.  On a different note Another’s background music did a great job portraying the mood of the anime.  Sometimes I felt scared during the anime just because of the background music. The voice actors also did a great job with their parts.

8/10

Another has very slow pacing until the end where it is a complete shit show.  I personally liked the slow pace, it reminded me a lot of Shiki, but others could get bored.  Overall Another has an interesting plot but sometimes it isn’t executed well.  It can be confusing at times but overall it is a strong story.  There are some plot holes but hopefully they will be explained in episode 0.

 7/10

Overall Another is a bloody anime with elements of horror.  It can be confusing at times and it does have plot holes but overall I recommend watching if not just for the beautiful animation.

7.6/10

Yes, I do know that this show, by definition, is not an anime, but that does not make me like it any less. Though I must say, it has absolutely no right to be this good, it’s a fucking Nick show. When the first series aired and I was in 7th grade I fell in love. Nickelodeon decided to pre-release two episodes on the 23rd because they got over 100,000 likes on facebook (yes, one of those likes came from me!).  Before you ask, no I did not see the live action movie; I did not want to see M. Night. Shamalamadingdong shit all over a franchise I love.

This series takes place 70 years after the original, and Aang has passed on, leaving a legacy that will be hard to follow. The new Avatar is a hotheaded water tribe girl by the name of Korra

image

Right away it is apparent that this series is geared more toward an older audience because where as Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph were 12-14, Korra is 17, rebelling against overbearing protectors (come on what teen has not dealt with that?). She has a completely different temperament then Aang did, and this is a nice change of pace. Where as he rejected the fact that he was the avatar, she completely embraces it. We also get introduced to other characters, Mako (totally the future love interest) and Bolin, bending brothers who are apart of the pro bending team, the Fire Ferrets. We still have connections to the original in the form of Tophs daughter, a talented metalbender and head or the Republic City police force, Lin. As well as Aang’s monk like son, Tenzen, and his three air bending children who will be teaching Korra air bending.

The animation is nothing short of superb, not at all a let down. The bending fight scenes were great, the choreography was original and well done. The metalbending utilizing the surroundings of Republic City were sick. Also the new series has a much different style, it’s more steam punk/20s, which looks great! I’m really interested in character design, so seeing steam punk style integrated with the Avatar world I already know and love is pure eye candy.

Throughout the two episodes my mature themes senses were tingling. The writers expertly pose the predicament of a bender ruled government that oppresses non-benders, and how the growing animosity between these two groups could rip their finally peaceful world asunder. These mature themes were accompanied by some genuine laugh out loud jokes. It is always nice to know that a series can do both effectively.

The background music was really effective in heightening the mood, and making the fight/chase scenes all the more heart pounding. I give the composers a hearty round of applause.

On a final note, the animals that reside in the avatar world are great, Korra has a giant polar bear dog, names Naga, and she is adorable.

Can’t wait until the next new episode!

Thanks for reading!

Sincerely,

Lykos
