I really enjoyed episode 1 of Nisemonogatari because of how much I loved the characters. The gap between the series was a long one and the first episode reminded me of what I had missed. Episode 1 re-introduced some of the old characters but not all of them. I knew this meant that episode 2 would be another introductory episode as much as I didn’t want it to be. I wanted the main plot of the series to kick into action but it did not in episode 2.
The episode starts with Araragi finally making it to Sengoku’s house. Sengoku is doing everything she can to impress Araragi. She has done her hair in a different style and is wearing a very short skirt and a low cut top. Throughout the dialogue that takes place she tries everything to get into Araragi’s pants… They decide to play the board game of life and this lasts for a couple hours. Next Sengoku says they should play twister, a game Araragi has never heard of. (That is such a lie, he is just a pervert and actually wants to play) Araragi decides to control himself because he knows he will be killed by Senjogahara if he doesn’t. Sengoku’s mother comes home and Araragi has to leave. He then calls up Suruga Kanbaru because he supposed to help her clean up her room. They have an awkward conversation and Kanbaru strips while on the phone… This lasts for a while before she tells him to come on over to her house. On the way you Araragi runs into the older of his 2 younger sisters, Karen. She is much taller and boyish than Araragi’s other sister Tsukihi. Araragi makes fun of her before he leaves for Kanbaru house. He walks into her room and she is naked….no comment on what takes place after this… let the next 4 pictures explain it to you
Yah, thats awkward for Araragi.
I never really agreed with Bakemonogatari being classified as Ecchi. I didn’t find there to be that much fan service in most of the 15 episode series. Episode 2 brought fan service to a whole other level for this franchise. There was just way too much of it. Sengoku is acting way to slutty for her age throughout the episode, she is only 14 or 15 years old and in middle school… (well I can’t say that American kids are any better) Araragi is 18 and he should not put up with her, but as Hachikuji said in episode 1, Araragi is always trying to find new members for his harem. I am happy that at least Karen was not used as fans service material but Kanbaru sure was. I don’t understand why she had to be naked so much…. Why is she going after Araragi when she came out in the first series saying that she is a lesbian. There is just nothing more to say about this.
The episode did introduce Karen for the first time. She seems like she will be a great character. She is the complete opposite of her very girly sister. The animation was amazing like in the first episode although there wasn’t much movement throughout. The plot again didn’t go anywhere in this episode. We still know nothing of why Araragi was captured in the first episode. I best guess is that it has something to do with Karen most likely being “possessed” by something. The first 2 episodes are called “Karen Bee” part one and two so she must have something to do with it.
(Thats awkward, I do like that she grew out her hair between series)
I enjoyed episode 2 of Nisemonogatari, even though there was way to much fan service and nothing in the form of the plot. Nisemonogatari really needs to kick start the plot next episode before people get bored with the story. On a side note the new theme song for episode 2 was great.
Episode Rating 7/10
